"Feizixiao" (妃子笑), also known as "Concubine's Smile," is a highly prized variety of lychee originating from China. Its name comes from a historical anecdote about Emperor Tang Ming Huang, who reportedly had this specific lychee variety rushed to his beloved concubine, Yang Gui Fei, because it would make her smile.

Here's what makes Feizixiao lychees special:

 * Appearance: They are typically medium to large in size, often appearing with a distinctive mix of red and green on their skin even when ripe. The skin is thin and easily peeled.

 * Flesh: The flesh is known for being thick, translucent white, and exceptionally juicy.

 * Flavor: Feizixiao lychees are celebrated for their delightful sweetness, often with a hint of a slight tartness near the seed. Some describe a subtle rose fragrance.

 * Seed: A key characteristic of premium Feizixiao is its relatively small pit, meaning more edible flesh.

 * Nutritional Value: Like other lychees, Feizixiao is a good source of Vitamin C, B-complex vitamins, and various minerals like copper and potassium, contributing to immune support, antioxidant properties, and overall health.

Season:

Feizixiao lychees are an early to mid-season variety. In major cultivation regions like Guangdong and Hainan in China, they typically ripen and are available from late May to early or mid-June.
